Half-Marathon Success for Evan of WeNeSe
Evan of WeNeSe Web Net Services began his Half-Marathon on a high note last June 2010, running the 7km distance from Kreuzbergstrasse in Kreuzberg to the OTA-Berlin office on Metzer Strasse in Prenzlauer Berg on his first run. A little over the top some would say, but fact that the distance was impressive for a first run was the motivation he felt he needed in order to put in the effort to begin his training.
He continued running this distance until the snow came in November and when it clear in the new year, needing a new challenge, he upped his running distance to 10km, in spite of the gap in training. As the marathon approached he was running 15, then 16 and finally 17km shortly before the day of the Marathon.
The Half-Marathon took place on the 3rd of April 2011 and it was a beautiful day with 25°C weather. Evan got off to a good start but suddenly after only about 10 minutes running he tripped, falling and tearing the palms of his hands. Still, with no damage to the legs he continued, managing to clean up the wounds reasonably well at the first water station.
Throughout the race various musical performers kept the crowd and runners entertained and althought the weather was hot, it was bearable, and far better than running in windy or rainy weather, say most runners.
Evan admitted that he felt pretty exhausted three quarters way through the race, but that the overhead signs saying things like “You’re all heroes” were motivation enough, along with the very supportive spectators, who cheered along everyone, regardless of whether they knew them or not. With all that as well his self-professed an absolute stubbornness to never give up on a challenge, he said he found the energy to keep going.

After 2 hours 5 minutes and 15 seconds Evan crossed the finish line in position 8480 of 13887, exhausted but exhilarated. The time was a good average time, the winner having completed the race in 1 hour 0 minutes and 38 seconds and the final runner having crossed the line after 3 hours 34 minutes and 24 seconds. WeNeSe and OTA-Berlin were proud of their colleague and friend on this day.
